The Comic Book History of Comics (3)

After reading The Comic Book History of Comics, It brought back so many memories of me wanting to become a comic book artist at age ten. Everything from the humor to the style, all on point! When I was reading this comic one thing that caught my attention was the Disney sections. As a typical Disney follower and theme park enthusiast, I found the information in this comic book hilarious and interesting. Throughout the comic book Disney and Mickey Mouse made numerous appearances. It’s quite understandable why Disney was brought up so many times. Disney is known for its rich history, iconic characters, and success. In The Comic Book History of Comics, I found myself learning so much about Disney I never knew before. Yes, I knew about Walt's childhood and the poverty he experienced. I didn’t know anything about the competition between Disney studios and Fleischer Studios. Also the 1941 labor strike, the relationship between him and the government, and what his staff thought of him. Another topic in the comic book I enjoyed was the pop art section. In the comic book we see artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, copying other artists, facing rejection, and following the comic book trend. Then we see the birth of the iconic Ben-Day dots, which was created by Benjamin Day. This was also utilized by these pop artists. I found this really fascinating, since I enjoy learning about art history. Also just seeing how everything influences each other and how it impact our culture. Everything in this hilarious comic book gave me nostalgia from all the old and newer comic books I've read over the years. I feel like I've learned a lot from this comic book.
